Easy

We never made Rice Krispie Treats much when I was growing up, and I wonder why.
They are so easy to make, and delicious to eat. I now love them and still only make them occasionally. I think that if you are looking to make something to take to a dinner, brunch, or cookout, consider making these Rice Krispie Treats.
I was inspired by Sally's Baking to include a splash of vanilla and a pinch of salt and the twist made all the difference. That vanilla flavor coming from the marshmellows is enhanced and the sweetness is tamped down a bit with the salt. My recipe, however doesn't make the huge batch that Sally's does, so it is perfect for a small group. You can of course double or triple the batch depending on your group.
If you want to jazz things up you could consider these variations:
Adding mini chocolate chips or M&Ms (perfect for the holidays...no matter what holiday that is)
The Food Network had this interesting twist - S'Mores Rice Krispie Treats. I know someone who would love those!
Try browning the butter a bit to add depth of flavor to the treats. It is really lovely. This is how I like to make mine.
Add peanut butter and top with melted chocolate for a special treat.
If you want to feel healthy, what about adding some seeds, chopped nuts, and or dried fruit to the mix.
One of the most interesting twists I found on Taste of Home was adding bacon and maple to the recipe. Give me a shout if you try that one.
The bottom line is you can be like me and like the more traditional combination, but really Rice Krispie Treats are a blank canvas. See what you can create.
Here's the basic recipe to get started. Happy Cooking!
